You can ensure that your LED solar street light is waterproof in these 4 ways.
Protection ratings
IP is an international standard for measuring the protection of electronic equipment against external substances such as water, dust, sand, etc. IP65, IP66 and IP67 are all numbers in the IP protection scale which indicate different levels of protection.
- IP65 means that the device is resistant to low pressure water jets from any direction and can withstand a certain amount of dust and debris.
- IP66 means that the device is resistant to strong water jets from any direction and can withstand a certain amount of dust and debris.
- IP67 means that the device is completely protected against dust ingress and can be temporarily submerged in water (up to a depth of 1 m).
When selecting electronic equipment, the appropriate IP protection level should be chosen according to the environment in which it will be used.
Solar charge controller
The solar charge controller is very important for LED solar street lights. During the day, the controller converts solar energy into electrical energy and at night the batteries power the street light. Most controllers are installed in the lampshade and battery box. Water does not normally get into them, but care needs to be taken.
When installing the controller, it is best to bend and fix the inner connection wires of the controller terminals in a “U” shape. The outside connections also need to be secured in a “U” shape so that rainwater cannot enter and cause a short circuit.
LED solar street light head
For a solar street light head, the sealing must pass, the waterproof treatment of the head can ensure the service life of a good street light, so the choice of the housing of the street light is still very important. If the seal is damaged or broken, water can enter the housing and damage the components of the lamp.
Use a waterproof adhesive or sealant to seal any gaps or cracks in the lamp housing, this will help prevent water from entering the lamp and damaging its components.
Batteries
Solar street light batteries should have a certain degree of waterproof performance, for the installation of the battery is buried under the ground beneath the street light, about 40 centimeters away, thus avoiding flooding.
By following these steps, you can help ensure that your LED solar street light is waterproof and lengthens its lifespan.
